One of the main reasons that silk rugs are more expensive is because of the additional time taken to weave them. Silk is a lot finer than wool, the knot count in a hand crafted silk rug is often three or four times higher than the equivalent handmade wool carpet. The fineness of the silk means rugs can have a lot detail and colour and of course as you would expect silk carpets feel very luxurious.

In recent years we are finding fabulous hand crafted silk rugs from Kashmir which are beautiful crafted on a silk foundation. These rugs are often more affordable than traditional Persian Qum pieces and we think the quality is very comparable.

The business was started by Jack Jennings in the summer of 1960, he always had an interest in the east and used his knowledge thru travel to set up this exciting business. Clare his daughter now continues this family tradition.

People are always amazed at the diversity and selection at Tewkesbury, often surprised, as it is so unusual outside London, to find so many hand Knotted pieces. The carpets are from Iran, (Persian) Afghanistan, Pakistan, Kashmir and India. Most pieces are produced using traditional home spun vegetable dyed wool. The silk pieces we have are either from Iran or Kashmir, traditionally knotted and beautifully detailed.
