We live in an old farmhouse built in 1808 and the floors downstairs are quarry tiles on earth not in a great state of repair, but we’d like to keep it in place. We have loose (unfitted) carpet in the lounge currently added by the previous owners. We are looking to replace this with new flooring and have a few requirements. Ideally it should add some insulation as the house is quite cold in winter, be easy to maintain / hard wearing and quite cheap (we have a 3 month old baby so only one income at present). To me the best option would be laminate flooring and some cheap rugs but I’m not sure if we can lay laminate on this type of floor? Do you have any advice or alternative suggestions?
