Thrilling tales of loyalty, separation and survival are brought to life in this exhibition, which delves into the pages of well-loved children’s books. The stories are explored alongside the history of real life conflicts from 1914 to the present day – all through the eyes of fictional children. This toy wooden dachshund (right) made by a German prisoner of war in the 1940s was the inspiration for Michael Morpurgo’s novel Little Manfred.
