2 Island II multi-fuel stove has double doors and wide windows for a clear view of the flames. Made from cast iron and plate steel, it has a heat output of 8kW and can stand on legs or raised on a fuel stove as shown, from £1,668, Charnwood.

3 Morsø 6140 cast-iron wood-burning stove in grey finish is 75.3cm high and has a heat output of 5.5kW, £1,267, Morsø.

4 Verona 8 cast-iron wood-burning stove is compact, finished in satin enamel and can be flued from the top or rear, £1,399, Broseley Fires.

5 Vesta V6 is a stainless steel wood-burning stove with a heat-resistant painted finish in a choice of 16 colours. It has a heat output of 6kW, £699, Vesta.

6 This cast-iron multi-fuel stove comes in two sizes (to give heat outputs of 4.7kW and 7.3kW) and a matt black or enamelled finish in six colours, from £599, Carron.

7 The Stockton 4 is available as a multi-fuel stove to burn wood and solid fuel or exclusively as a wood-burner. It comes in matt black and metallic blue, brown or green finishes, £729, Stovax.
