Update - December 2011
Happy New Year!
Phew! It’s been a busy couple of months but we did manage to have a couple of days off over the Christmas period. There has been a massive amount of progress. We are charging forwards, in an attempt to be able to move in by March (this year!).
The final structural work has been completed and we are now working towards plastering out each room.
Progress inside:
A structural oak post has been installed between the existing and new building. This will take the wight of the brickwork above and make the rooms feel open plan. The stairs will eventually curve around this post.

ABOVE: Structural post between existing and new building.
The remaining roof and wall insulation has been installed within the new and existing building.
The walls in the existing building have been plaster boarded ready for the plaster to start in a week or so.
A number of stud walls have been built between the kitchen and stairway; To separate off the downstairs bathroom and utility room and between the second bedroom and stairwell.

ABOVE: Stud wall in the single storey extension to create small bathroom and utility.
Cupboards have been built upstairs to house the water cylinder and header tanks.

ABOVE (left-right): Bathroom showing raised floor; Elm flooring in master bedroom.
Elm flooring has been laid within the master bedroom and across the landing.
Due to the beams being exposed downstairs, the bathroom floor has been raised up so the pipes can be run underneath.
The Plumber has started to run the pipes in the bathroom.
Wiring in the new building has started; the existing building was completed in previous months.
Progress outside:
The mountain of soil, created when the foundations were dug has finally been moved. This has enabled us to see the full aspect for the first time.
Channels have been dug for the drainage pipes to be laid.
The front patch of land has been cleared and plum slate has been laid.

ABOVE and BELOW: Rear aspect before and after the soil and rubble was removed.

Alison Moses and her partner are currently renovating an 18th century Lock Cottage in Staffordshire.
Currently the property has been stripped out, back to the orginal brick and they are waiting for planning permission before starting the extension. They intend on putting as much of the original features back into the property as possible and have already taken the ceiling down to reveal the old purlings.
Alison and her partner will be completing most of the renovation work themselves and expect this to take a year to 18 months before completion.
