The Story so Far!
We fell in love with this cottage back in September 2009, and finally got our offer accepted in the October. It’s perfect and I feel very lucky to have a practical Joiner for a partner who will be able to transform it into our first home.

The keys were finally ours in April 2010, after months of the usual ‘buying process’ problems. Since then we have stripped the cottage back to the original brick and started to reveal some of the old features such as the purlings in the roof.

It’s a quaint and totally fascinating little cottage in a perfect location. It has a small living room, separate dining room, kitchen and bathroom on the ground floor. And upstairs there are two bedrooms. Out back there are some higgledy-piggledy out buildings and a perfectly sized garden. If I had a pound for every canal boat person that has floated past the house and commented on how perfect the location is, we would be able to pay for the renovation twice over. We’re so lucky!
Our Plan!
To extend the single storey extension into a double storey, this will make space for a bathroom upstairs. We want to install some windows out the back face of the house to make the most of the view. This will be a sympathetic renovation, using as many reclaimed products as possible to put back the original features. We’ve already spent a lot of time scouring the internet for deals and trawling reclamation yards. Having a very limited budget the second hand deals are good for the house and our pockets!

Alison Moses and her partner are currently renovating an 18th century Lock Cottage in Sandon, Staffordshire.
Currently the property has been stripped out, back to the orginal brick and they are waiting for planning permission before starting the extension. They intend on putting as much of the original features back into the property as possible and have already taken the ceiling down to reveal the old purlings.
Alison and her partner will be completing most of the renovation work themselves and expect this to take a year to 18 months before completion.
