Deeds
I have noticed a couple of letters in the magazine about the difficulty in finding out about a home's history. I too have a period property and have absolutely no idea what the building was used for in the past and who might have lived there.
Has anyone got any ideas on how to locate more detailed deeds?

History of your Home / Deeds
Hello
Your can look up your property on the Land Registry website and get a typed version of your deeds for about £4 (these can be very limited though)
Alternatively, go down to your local history archive or contact your local history society for more information.
I have been researching house histories for many years and I know how complicated the research process can be if you're just starting out.
Good Luck!

Deeds
Having recently purchased a victorian property, our solicitor provided us with all the original conveyencing documents going back to the first owners. Our daughter also had these documents given to her on completion of her purchase. At one time, the solicitor used to hold these until the mortgage was paid off but now they routinely give them to the new owners. Try contacting your solicitor - they may have them on file.
They do make fascinating reading.
