If they've been on the wall for a number of years they may be nailed on to wooden pads in the brick joints, so you can remove them with a bolster chisel or small crowbar. There will probably be some plaster damage which should be easily patched up. If they are screwed on first try to remove the screws, but if they won't budge you'll need to use the chisel or crowbar method.
