Double glazing in my listed house
My husband and I recently moved into our grade II listed home and suffered throughout the winter months with the cold. We are looking at replacing the window panes with double glazing whilst still retaining the original frames as those pvc frames are ghastly and wouldn't suit our home at all.
We are unsure whether or not this complies with the building regulations for listed properties. Does anyone have any experience of updating windows in a listed property?

We applied for and managed to secure permission to alter our windows from single glazed to double glazed. No two windows were the same so all the windows were made individually and they are fantastic - no more condensation dripping down. I keep the house well ventilated as dont want to risk any damp etc and besides these new windows are so easy to open and close, plus we have the added benefit of feeling more secure.
Our little cottage is in a Conservation area so it can be done. They look really lovely as they are made of hardwood not some ugly plastic!

Hi JennieC, where did you get your windows from, was it a local supplier or a larger company?
Thanks, Gill
Windows in Listed Building
Hi Gill
The supplier was local to us in Buckinghamshire. A friendly and professional team. The Building firm has completed all the work we needed to get done on our little cottage including the windows.
The web address is www.ivinghoebuilders.com
Good luck
Jennie
Listed Building at first refused when I called to ask about double glazing but we finally got consent as did our neighbour. I think stressing the importance about global warming etc helped
