Where do you get ideas for traditional living room changes

I have a traditional living room but it needs updating with new carpet and chairs. Walls are done in cream with creamy curtains with a beige pattern in. I like tans and browns. I want an expensive look but keeping the cost down. Something also that wears well because I have 4 grandchildren and need something that cleans well. Mrs May

You don't say what style or period your home is and it's also worth bearing in mind that good value and expensive mean different things to different people.

However, many high street chains now have great ranges of homewares and furniture and as you're online I would recommend starting with the 'Create your own look' tool from Homebase:

One of the options is for neutrals - lovely coffees and creams that are flexible with the changing seasons - so this would be a good start for you and you could introduce darker tones with your accessories.

Next Home, Sainsburys and Dunelm Mill all have good selections of cushions and textiles. A soft throw, especially at this time of year, is a good way to bring comfort and sophistication to your living room.

Best of luck!
