Lovely houses...

Congrats to all the finalists. It's really inspirational to read through their stories, but in the end my vote went to the Bergins for their hard work and dedication. It's so nice to read about someone actually taking pleasure in the process rather than thnking about the re-sale value.Well done!

Awards

What lovely homes, I haven't voted yet as I can't quite decide between the 18th century stone cottage and the 1880s shrimpers cottage, but it's great seeing such inspirational houses.

Awards

All the houses are fantastic but I have to chose the 18th century stone cottage. The Bergins have kept so much of the rustic charm that a true Irish cottage should have, yet made it a comfortable home. The exterior, both the building and surrounding grounds are also beautifully done. Well done.

Shrimper's Cottage

I love this cottage, it would be the one I would choose if returning to the UK permanently so that in itself says it all for me.

I chose the Shrimpers Cottage

I chose the Shrimpers Cottage because it looks like a home rather than a magazine. It's a house that's attainable and a realistic size for myself and my cat!

Awards

I meant the thatched cottage - apologies!

Awards

So many lovely homes it was hard to decide. However my vote goes to the thatched cottage and the couple who moved in with very little in the way of creature comforts partly due to the dedication showed (it's very easy to move in when all the hard work has already been done for you!) and partly the final result - which is simply stunning.

My vote is for the thatched

My vote is for the thatched cottage as although it is beautiful to look at it is also a home and not just a showpiece. The couple who own have spent years putting time and energy restoring it and it looks like it has personality and 'soul' which can be lacking in some period houses.best of luck to the Bergins!

Thatched cottage

I agree! Lovely that this couple were prepared to wait, learn as they went along and have been rewarded with a fantastic home full of character. Well done to them!

Shrimpers

Congratulations to all the finalists on their delightful homes. It was a tough decision but my vote went to the Shrimper's cottage for the sheer level of detail. Closer inspection of the photos shows the period details. It is obvious that the owners have pit their heart and soul into it

Awards

My vote went to the thatched cottage. Well done ! What a lovely warm and welcoming place.
We are in the middle of planning the renovation and extention of our wee cottage in Scotland, this place has given me renewed inspiration!

Shane Allen's 18th c. Stone Cottage

The kitchen is the heart of any home and this one is clearly full of warmth and charm. A winning kitchen - in any home - anywhere in the world. Stunning.

Shrimper's cottage

Shrimper's cottage: This house looks like all the details have been taken care of beautiflly, which often get overlooked when renovating. The devil is in the details. Well done, got my vote!

VOTING FOR FAVOURITE HOME

I would love to vote for the Georgian town house but can't seem to vote no matter what i click on to.

RE: Voting for your favourite home

Thank you – I've since managed to register a vote.

Shrimpers cottage

Love the attention to detail and reflecting theclose proximity to the sea

Shrimpers Cottage looks so

Shrimpers Cottage looks so loved and lived in... looks like a house for many happy memories and shows a lot of attention to detail. Love it. Deffinate winner!

Grade 2 listed Georgian house

A large bank account does not make a home but heart and soul does. It takes great vision and intuition to make a home on a tight budget. I love what they have achieved already. Good luck to them with the rest of the house. If you get stuck, let the house tell you what it wants.

Thatched cottage

I have just been transported back in time to my Grandparents home in Ireland, as the cottage is similar in style. You truly have put alot of thought and love in restoring this little gem, it has warmth and character and looks so homely - it invites you in to the past and present. Well done! And thank you for rekindling child hood memories.

Shrimpers Cottage

Congratulations in rennovating Shrimpers to give it such a lovely cosy but light and airy look incorporating modern features that sit comfortably in an old cottage.
Well done!

Shrimpers Cottage

Love the simplicity and style of this home. We particularly like the muted tones which give it a modern twist.

2011 awards

Sonja here from the thatched cottage. I just wanted to thank Period Living, Barbara, Penny and of course Kit Stone. Well done to all the finalists, Congratulations to Shrimpers for winning the readers' choice too. A big thank you to everyone who took the time to vote for us or wrote a comment.
